Have you noticed those fun little loot boxes in Discord that you get for being active in servers? They’re a great reward for engaging with your communities. But what if they suddenly disappear?
Don’t panic – it’s usually an easy fix. The loot boxes not showing properly is a common issue that happens from time to time.
In this article, I’ll walk you through some troubleshooting steps to get those boxes popping back up. With just a few tweaks, you can get your loot box fix again and enjoy showing off your hard-earned discord swag.
What Are Loot Boxes in Discord?
Loot boxes are virtual prizes you can unlock in Discord by participating in HypeSquad events. Once you join the HypeSquad, you’ll automatically start earning loot boxes for hanging out in voice chats, streaming, and inviting friends.
Types of Loot
Inside each loot box, you’ll find a random assortment of chat perks, profile accessories, and server boosts.
Chat perks include animated emojis, custom badges, and colorful text effects. Profile accessories allow you to customize your profile with frames, backgrounds, and badges.
Server boosts provide extra features for your Discord servers like higher audio quality, custom emojis, and banner images.
How Do I Open Loot Boxes?
To open a loot box and discover your loot, just click the loot box icon at the top of the Discord window.
A window will pop up showing you the contents of your prize.
Simply click “Open” and your new perks, accessories, and boosts will be automatically added to your Discord account. The loot you receive is random, so you never know what you might unlock in the next loot box!
Why Aren’t My Discord Loot Boxes Showing Up?
If your Discord loot boxes have mysteriously vanished, don’t panic. There are a few common reasons why this can happen, and fortunately, most are easy fixes.
Your Discord is Out of Date
Discord frequently releases updates to fix bugs, add new features, and improve performance. If your Discord app hasn’t been updated in a while, it’s possible an outdated version is causing your loot boxes to disappear. Head to the Discord website and download the latest update. Once installed, your loot boxes should reappear.
There’s a Temporary Server Issue
Sometimes Discord experiences temporary technical issues that can cause loot boxes and other features to malfunction. The good news is Discord works quickly to resolve server-side problems. Check @discordapp on Twitter or the Discord status page to see if they’ve reported any current issues. If so, your loot boxes will likely reappear once the issue has been fixed.
Your Discord Cache Needs to be Cleared
Your Discord cache stores temporary data to help the app run more efficiently. Over time, too much cached data can actually cause performance issues and glitches. Clearing your Discord cache should resolve any loot box display problems caused by outdated cached data. Here’s how to clear your Discord cache:
- Close the Discord app
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type “%appdata%” (without quotes) and press Enter.
- Find the Discord folder and delete it.
- Restart your Discord app.
Your loot boxes and any other missing features should now be working properly again. Let me know if clearing the cache doesn’t do the trick and your loot box issue continues. I’m happy to provide additional suggestions to help get your Discord back in working order.
Fix Discord Loot Boxes Not Showing by Restarting Discord
Restarting your computer will refresh your system and can fix issues with Discord not showing loot boxes or other temporary software glitches.
Save any open files, then select “Restart” or “Restart and Update” from the Power options on Windows or the Apple menu on Mac. Your computer will restart, and once it’s back on, open Discord again.
Additionally, an outdated version of the Discord app can sometimes cause issues with features like loot boxes not appearing. To check for updates, open Discord and select “Check for Updates” from the Discord menu.
If an update is available, install it. Discord will update automatically and restart. Once it’s back up, your loot boxes should be displaying properly again.
Reconnect Your Discord Account to Fix Loot Box Issues
The most common reason loot boxes disappear or won’t open is because your Discord account has become disconnected from the game.
The first thing you’ll want to try is relinking your game account to Discord. Head to the Connections tab in your Discord settings and look for the game in question. Click “Disconnect” next to it, then “Connect” again to relink the account. This should refresh the connection and get your loot boxes showing up again right away.
If relinking the account doesn’t work, there may be an issue with the game itself. Make sure you have the latest version of the game installed. Outdated games sometimes have compatibility problems with Discord that can cause loot box errors. Install any available updates and then reopen Discord to see if that fixes the problem.
As a last resort, you may need to reauthorize Discord to access your game account. This will reset the connection completely and should get your loot boxes back in order.
Don’t get discouraged if it takes a few tries to get your loot boxes showing up again. Connections between games and third-party apps can be finicky at times. But by systematically going through relinking accounts, updating software and reauthorizing access, you’ll get Discord and your game syncing up happily again in no time.
